The strategic planning process framework begins with GW's mission statement as well as its aspirational statement: GW aspires to preeminence as a comprehensive global research university. Its foundation includes: GW's values of integrity, collaboration, courage, respect, excellence, diversity and openness; the responsible stewardship of resources; physical and technological infrastructure; and continued progress on GW's five strategic initiatives, which comprise the student experience, research, philanthropy and constituent engagement, the medical enterprise and institutional culture. In the middle are the plan's four pillars: world-class faculty, high-quality undergraduate education, distinguished and distinctive graduate education and high-impact research.
